Hi, I’m Sam!

This pictures was taken on Easter Sunday, 1999, after my first chemo treatment and I already need to wear a hat because of the extreme hair loss.

Truth bomb. I’ve never been overweight. So now you may ask how could someone who’s never been overweight teach you to lose weight?⁠

Because my story didn't start the way you may think. When I was 29 years old, weighing only 120 pounds at the time, my story started in a hospital recovery room post-colonoscopy, still groggy from the anesthesia, hearing the word every person fears.⁠

Cancer. ⁠

⁠When I was first diagnosed with colon cancer, I went on an all out search trying to find what I needed to do to be healthy-to prepare my body to fight this disease, to improve my immune system-whatever I could do to live- but no one could tell me how to do that. All I found were courses telling me how to lose weight.⁠

But I tried them. Oh how I tried them. Everything from the cabbage soup diet to counting points and counting calories.  But here's the thing:  I was still sick.⁠

I ended up feeling confused more than anything because the logic behind eating whatever I wanted-cake, pie and the like, all while making sure I stayed under my calories or points, didn't make sense to me. And at the time, FEAR of DYING was my driving force and it simply was not logical that I was "allowed" to eat all of those things and still help me achieve my sole purpose- -and that was survival!⁠

Just because you're dieting my friend, doesn't mean you're healthy. Weighing less than 130 pounds and what some would consider 'skinny' I was still facing a killer disease.⁠

And you know what happens when you learn that?  YOU LOSE WEIGHT!

And you know what else happens? 

You’ve learned more than just how to count points, numbers or calories to lose a few extra pounds.

If you truly want long lasting weight loss, if you truly want to feel better and look better (because don't we all!?), and if you truly want to live a fulfilling, energetic life where you can choose to do anything you want without physical limitations, then you must stop focusing solely on losing weight.

You must learn to EAT FOR BETTER HEALTH, while shifting from a dieting mindset to a lifestyle mindset. When that happens, you'll not only have those things you desire, but you'll also lose weight in the process....weight that won't come back.
